SPSS .sav data files can be merged by selecting Tools and Merge Data Files and either Add New Cases or Add New Variables. If your file is in a different format, you need to first convert it to an SPSS data file.
Add New Cases
Tools | Merge Data Files | Add New Cases… merges together two data files containing different respondents. For example, it is appropriate for merging together two different months of data from a tracking study.
The merged data file will contain a new variable called mergesrc which indicates the names of the original data files. Where you merge multiple files, this variable will update to add new file names.
Add New Variables
Tools | Merge Data Files | Add New Variables… merges together two data files containing the same respondents. For example, it can be used to merge together a recruitment questionnaire and a diary component.
