How to Analyze Hierarchical Databases in Q

Some data files can have a hierarchical structure (e.g., data may be collected from each member of a household, or, from a person at multiple occasions). There are four main ways of analyzing hierarchical data in Q:

  1. As. Where the data files are in formats other than SPSS .sav they will first need to be converted to this format prior to stacking (see Save Data as SPSS/CSV File).
  2. Via the multivariate Question Types (e.g., Number - Multi, Pick Any - Grid, etc.).
  3. By Stacking.
  4. By writing code (particularly via R).
