Classification of individuals or households into segments according to their geodemographic characteristics. Commonly, the resulting segments are given evocative names (e.g., the 'blue bloods').

Geodemographic segmentations are generally most useful for direct marketing activities, as they make it straightforward to allocate each and every address into a segment.
